Month: December 2011

Burpees

A reader asked what a burpee is.  Here's a video demonstrating burpees.  The last part of the demonstration are burpees with a muscle up.  I'm not doing those yet.

Mt. Rainier Charity Climb: Summit for Someone

Just before Thanksgiving I signed up for Summit for Someone, an organization that benefits at-risk children by providing them with a mentored outdoor experience.  This experience gives them good decision-making and leadership skills.  The program changes lives.

I plunked down $1000 deposit and started training.  Here's where I started:

Thanksgiving XF Bootcamp
Thanksgiving morning bootcamp at Mt. Baker Cross Fit.  That's me in the yellow shirt about to launch into a burpee.  My training plan for this month is to go to Cross Fit about three times per week and ride my bike to work at least once per week.  Soon I will need to don a pack and walk or ski up hill.  I'll start that next month.

What do I get out of this charity climb?  An opportunity to climb Mt. Rainier for one thing, which is a really big thing.  I could climb Mt. Rainier with friends as I have lots of climbing friends who have summited more than once and would cheerfully lead for free.  Making this climb through Summit for Somone is an opportunity to make this climb more meaningful.  The funds I raise will benefit a whole group of kids who will get to have a life-changing experience because of my climb.  So now it's more than getting to the top of a big mountain.

Please donate any amount ($5, $10, $20) here.  Many people will have you to thank!
